Common Questions

Troubleshooting

  • Why Has My Motor Failed?

Motor failure in industrial fans can occur either during installation or over time due to operating conditions. Identifying when the issue started will help narrow down the cause.

    Motor Failure Over Time

If the motor has been running for a period before failure, check the following:

    • Confirm the motor is not overloaded
    • Check starting current and full load current against specification
    • Ensure nothing is restricting the impeller from rotating freely
    • Inspect for water ingress
    • Make sure the motor terminal box is fully sealed after wiring

Excessive load, moisture ingress, or restricted rotation are common causes of long term motor damage.

    Motor Failure From Installation

If the failure occurred shortly after installation:

    • Check whether VSD controller cables are too long
    • Excessive cable length can cause voltage spikes
    • Shorten the cable length in line with manufacturer recommendations

Incorrect installation practices can significantly reduce motor lifespan.

If these checks do not resolve the issue, download our detailed troubleshooting guide below or contact our Service and Maintenance team for expert support.

  • Why Is My Fan Vibrating?

Fan vibration is usually a sign that the fan assembly is out of balance or incorrectly installed. The cause can vary depending on whether the issue developed over time or was present from installation.

    Vibration Developing Over Time

    • Check for build up of product or debris on the impeller blades
    • Inspect for uneven wear
    • Ensure no components have loosened

Material accumulation is one of the most common causes of imbalance in centrifugal fans.

    Vibration From Installation

Improper foundations and mounting are major contributors to vibration issues. Ensure the following:

    • The foundation supports the full mass of the fan with no measurable deflection
    • The base is one continuous structure and not positioned across separate slabs
    • All fixing holes are fully utilised
    • The mounting surface is perfectly flat
    • Shims are used where necessary to prevent distortion when bolted down

If the casing becomes distorted, this can lead to impeller or inlet contact and increased vibration.

Foundations must also be free from vibration transmitted by surrounding machinery. External vibration can lead to:

    • Premature motor bearing failure
    • Fan bearing damage
    • Weld fractures
    • Bolt fatigue and loosening

If vibration persists, download our troubleshooting guide or speak to our Service and Maintenance team for professional assessment.

  • My Bearing Has Failed. What Should I Do?

Bearing failure is often linked to lubrication issues, misalignment, or excessive vibration.

    Start by checking:

    • Your greasing schedule
    • The type and grade of grease being used
    • Whether the correct quantity is being applied
    • Signs of contamination or overheating

Over greasing and under greasing can both lead to premature bearing failure.

If you cannot locate your greasing schedule or are unsure about lubrication intervals, contact our Service and Maintenance team for guidance. Regular servicing significantly reduces the risk of bearing damage and unplanned downtime.
